First post I am already ripping off Buggles' song. And this is my first proper post, I don't count the intro one. The post has been sitting here, in various states on completation for many months. Ever since I first got connected to the web, I have been interested in the way that it works and the way it will develop. So the next few posts will be about the Internet.
It's seems that's it's official, file sharing P2P is no longer responsible for the majority of traffic on the Internet. It is now Streaming Video (youtube, BBC Iplayer, and even NinjaVideo, etc.) is the highest. Such is the case that it is predicted that within 8-10 years, 20 normal households will pass more data than was transmitted over the entire Internet in 1995. This is a huge leap in the amount of data being transmitted.
This therefore means that there will be a need for greater access speeds in the future otherwise the internet will start to slow down even more due to the increased traffic. This could have a hugely detrimental effect on ordinary users, the effect on businesses could even worse. There was an episode of South Park a while back, where they dealt in their usual manner.
Also on a side note, my parents who live in the country are unable to gain acess to any type of broadband connection: DSL, Wimax, even mobile broadband failes to work in their location. The only current option availabe to them is satellite which is over priced. Ireland is not alone in this, there are parts of America which has the same problem. And I will do a post on this in the future.

Digital Thoughts
Hi, so I decided to set-up a blog , mainly to make myself feel more intelligent, actually there numerous issue I am interested in and I wish to make my thoughts about them known. No that anyone will actually read this blog. Most of what I want to write relates to technology and it's affect on society. Also I will probably write about whatever is on my mind when I decide to write.
I am a software engineer who used to work in an ISP till it started to drive mad and I decided to get a better job. I discovered that the even though the job changed the madness continued.
The topic I will probably rant about next is broadband deployment in Ireland, actually how terrible it is and the way people are trying to recertify the problem.
